Grassroots Regional and National Referee Upgrade Clarification

on

From Abrom Douglas Jr., SRA/SYRA

This memorandum is to clarify some of the new procedures that are coming from US Soccer.

All the referees that had started their upgrade to grade 7, will continue that route to become a regional referee. However, they must follow the procedures and requirements for the regional referee for upgrading for 2020.

If you are a current grade 7 referee and do not wish to upgrade to regional referee, your status will change to a grassroots referee. If you wish to upgrade to regional referee you must follow the below requirements.

Any referee that is a regional referee (the old grade 6 & 5) and do not wish to become National Referee, you will remain a regional referee and have to follow the recertification requirements for regional referee.

Any referee that is a regional referee (the old grade 6 & 5) and wish to become a National Referee must follow the National Referee registration procedures.  You must chose either National Referee track or National Assistant Referee track, and you must have a minimum of three assessments done by a National Coach in the particular track.  It is recommended that you get as many assessments as possible by National Coaches.

NOTE 1: If you want to become a National Referee, you must notify the SRA by email on whether you wish to become a National Referee or National Assistant Referee.

NOTE 2: If you don’t get selected as a National Referee you will remain a regional referee and then can make a decision if you want to continue to try to become a National Referee. If you decide to continue to become a National Referee you must still follow all the National Referee registration procedures.

The requirements are posted in the Library documents section.
